BIRD CARE & ADOPTION

Preparing for Your Bird Collection Appointment

A little preparation makes collection day easier. This checklist helps Brisbane and Redlands families organise a Baby Beaks appointment in Redland Bay and prepare for their new companion before leaving home.

Confirm the details with us first

Collection is by appointment. Wait for Baby Beaks to confirm that your individual baby is ready and your appointment is arranged. Paying a deposit does not mean the bird is ready to leave that day.

Before travelling, confirm the bird’s identity, appointment details, paperwork, balance and any agreed extras. Please contact us if your plans change. Review the adoption process and Terms & Conditions so you can raise questions before collection.

Prepare your home before collection

Arrange a species-appropriate enclosure, food and water dishes, perches and safe enrichment. Ask for the baby’s current food and routine, and discuss any proposed changes with an avian veterinarian. Do not assume one feeding plan suits every species.

Choose a secure location away from cooking fumes, smoke and aerosols. Plan how you will prevent escapes and unsupervised contact with other pets. If you already keep birds, discuss separation, health checks and introductions with your avian veterinarian before the new arrival.

Your collection-day checklist

  • Your confirmed appointment and contact details.
  • A secure carrier suitable for the individual bird, agreed with Baby Beaks.
  • Any required paperwork and a way to complete the agreed payment.
  • A list of questions about the bird’s current routine, food and records.
  • A plan for travelling directly home.
  • An enclosure and supplies already prepared at home.
  • Contact details for an avian veterinarian and an after-hours veterinary service.

Our bird essentials collection includes available supplies. Check each item’s suitability with us before purchase; a travel carrier is intended for transport and does not replace your bird’s permanent enclosure.

Plan a calm journey home

Ask us how to arrange the carrier safely for your bird. Keep it secured during travel and keep the bird contained until you are inside a secure room at home. Avoid unnecessary stops and never leave a bird unattended in a parked vehicle.

Before you leave your appointment, clarify anything you are unsure about. Save your bird’s information and our contact details so you can find them easily later.

Keep support close

Baby Beaks offers lifetime support. Contact us about the routine and information provided for your baby. Health concerns need veterinary advice; our vet collaboration page explains our connection with avian care.

This is a collection planning checklist. Your individual bird’s health, diet, enclosure and transport needs should be discussed with an avian veterinarian where appropriate.
